We’re giving away a beautiful Brass Hot Pot with Divider and some Hot Pot Bases from The Mala Market!
Now that the weather has cooled down, it’s officially hot pot season. Hot pot parties are one of the most popular activities in China during winter (and any time of year!). Not only is it perfect for gatherings and celebrations, it’s actually a common way to enjoy dinner when we do not feel like cooking. Because you simply need to buy your favorite ingredients from the market and do a bit of prep to have an indulgent and hearty dinner in no time.
In China, the most popular hot pot is the type with the divider. So you can use two types of soup base to make sure everyone at the table has their favorites.
Today I’m partnering with The Mala Market to give away their beautiful brass hot pot and tasty hot base bases to one lucky reader of Omnivore’s Cookbook!
About The Mala Market
The Mala Market is America’s source for premium and hard-to-find Sichuan ingredients, a curated selection of Chinese pantry essentials and instructional Chinese pantry collections.
Their mission is to make your Chinese cooking taste like it would in China by importing traditional, artisanal Sichuan ingredients, most of which have never been available in the U.S.
Cultivating relationships with and sourcing directly from producers — cutting out all the middlemen — allows them to guarantee authenticity, quality, safety, and freshness, and also makes it possible for us to learn and share product knowledge directly from the producers.
My experience
Back when I was living in Austin, Texas, I had a hard time finding fresh Sichuan peppercorns before The Mala Market opened for business. And the first time I received a package from them, I was surprised and delighted by the freshness of the spices. Since then I’ve only been using Sichuan peppercorns and dried chili peppers from them, because they are sourced directly from Sichuan and the quality is so high.
I’ve known Taylor, the founder of The Mala Market, for several years and I’m so glad to see her company grow. For this holiday season, she started to carry these beautiful brass hot pots with a divider, which is perfect for winter.

My family love hot pot in the winter time in MN!
Too bad it’s hard to find all the ingredients to make it at home when you can’t even eat out anymore due to COVID-19 🙁
love this hot pot! @threalslimjacki
Something new to try!
I find the mother/daughter story of Taylor & Fong Chong compelling. I admired their strong relationship which resulted in the Mala Market. The Mala Market has several items that are interesting and rarely found In common Asian markets as the Zhongba Soy Sauce, the Baoning Handcrafted 10 yr Aged Vinegar and the Sichuan Pepper Grinder. That brass hot pot is absolutely a gorgeous piece, artistically beautiful as well as utilitarian. I hope I will be the lucky winner.
